Purpose

1.1 To establish a standard procedure to verify that the biohazard safety cabinet is integrated properly into the facility including:

a) Biohazard Cabinet airflow alarms (Excluding building automation systems).

b) Biohazard Cabinet sash alarms

c) Supply fan interlocks on Type B2 Biohazard Cabinets

d) Exhaust system performance (Canopy or Thimble type connections)

2 Scope

2.1 This procedure applies to Class II Biohazard Cabinets.

5 Responsibility

5.1 Test and Balance (TAB) technicians shall record all test results on Form FN 8.057.1 (Biohazard Safety Cabinet Test Report Summary Sheet) in the "Site Installation Assessment Tests" sections.

5.2 All test reports shall be saved in files, located in the TAB department of Therma.

5.3 All test equipment utilized shall be in calibration in accordance with National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) Standards and traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Procedures

8.1 Alarms

8.1.01 Airflow Alarms - Refer to NSF 49, Annex F, Section F.7, Subsection F.7.3.1.1 for procedures and standards of acceptance.

8.1.02 Sash Alarms - Refer to NSF 49, Annex F, Section F.7, Subsection F.7.3.1.2 for procedures and standards of acceptance.

8.2 Interlocks

8.2.01 Refer to NSF 49, Annex F, Section F.7, Subsection F.7.3.2 for procedures and standards of acceptance.

8.3 Exhaust System Performance-Canopy (Thimble) Connection

8.3.01 Fill Nebulizer water container to the maximum fill indication line. Replace container cover and ensure all hoses are connected correctly.

8.3.02 Switch on the Nebulizer and adjust the DI steam flow to a steady, slow stream.

8.3.03 Refer to NSF 49, Annex F, Section F.7, Subsection F.7.3.3 for procedures and standards of acceptance.

8.4 Indicate Pass or Fail for each Installation Assessment test in the appropriate checkbox on the Biological Safety Cabinet Test Report Summary Sheet, FN 8.057.1.

Review and Approval

9.1 TAB technicians shall return the Biohazard Safety Cabinet Test Report Summary Sheet, FN 8.057.1 to the TAB Department for review.
