Safe Work Practices

ñ When using any type of temporary heating device, make sure the work area has an adequate supply of fresh air.

ñ Before starting a temporary heating device that is fueled by LP Gas, check to be sure that it is equipped with an automatic shut-off device to stop the flow of gas in case the flame goes out.

ñ Avoid using solid fuel salamanders inside buildings or when working on scaffolds.

ñ When setting up temporary heating devices, be sure to place them at least 10 feet away from area covers that are flammable or combustible, such as plastic or canvas tarps, and any other flammable or combustible materials.

ñ Take the time to securely fasten area covers so that they can’t displace or knock over temporary heating devices in high winds.

ñ While you are working, be sure to keep flammable and combustible materials, such as fuels, flammable and combustible chemical substances, wood, trash, etc. at least 10 feet away from temporary heating devices.
